Under E18 där bilarna dundrar fram i en ständig ström flyter den
lilla kanalen Ålkistan fram lugnt och stillsamt. Ålkistan var
tidigare en naturligt förekommande förbindelse mellan Brunnsviken
och Värtan, men sedan landhöjningen gjort den ofarbar grävdes den
ut igen på 1800-talet. Namnet Ålkistan kommer från en
fångstanordning av ål som tidigare fanns i bäcken.
Under E18, where the cars thunder in a neverending stream, the
little canal Ålkistan silently flows. Ålkistan was earlier a creek
that connected Brunnsviken with Värtan, but due to the post-glacial
rebound, it was too shallow to pass by boat, and the canal was
built in the mid-19th century. The name Ålkistan ("the eel
coffin"), comes from a device for catching eel, that earlier was to
be found in the creek.
