Central Jersey - Northwest Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

trowel32: Time for this one to go. I picked up the container a while ago. There has been some clearing done very close to the GZ and they cut down the tree overhanging the lake that was in the opening of "House". The tree the cache was hidden in is dead now and all the bark has fallen off and I suspect this tree might get removed sometime soon as well.

The recent clearing has actually pushed even more thorns near the hiding spot and its barely accessible now so would probably be a nightmare in the spring. I hate thorny hides, so don't really want to subject people to this. Maybe I'll unarchive at some point if I find a better spot.

Thanks to all that visited [:)]

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the listed coordinates which are for parking only. You will have to solve the puzzle below to find the cache.

The container for this cache was the original container for Central Jersey - West by Team Ekitt10. At one point in time, I checked up on the cache for the CO when there were a few DNFs. I found it in the wrong spot, but less than 10 feet away from where it should be. I decided to leave it there, as the original location seemed compromised. Well, a few more DNFs ensued, and ekitt10 went out and placed a new container...but the original was still there. This clearly violated the 528 foot cache placement density rule, so I went back and snagged it and now it has migrated north.

Now to the puzzle...I saw this in a puzzle book and thought it would work well as a geocache puzzle. The image below is composed of eight overlapping pieces of equal size. All you have to do is figure out in what sequence the pieces were placed in order to create the image. Then use this information to complete the coordinates below

    Cache Coordinates: N40° 20.ABC W74° 38.DCE
A=digit found on the fourth piece placed
B=digit found on the eighth piece placed
C=digit found on the sixth piece placed
D=digit found on the first piece placed
E=digit found on the fifth piece placed

You can check your coordinates here The final cache is located less than 20 feet from a trail. There may be some minor bushwacking involved with a few thorns and some low poison ivy in a few spots, but the cache is not located in either. If you watch where you step, you should be able to avoid these hazards. This general area is featured in the opening credits of the television show "House". Look around near the water (and up) for the cormorants while you are here. When I was taking coordinates for the cache I also heard an osprey nearby.

Update July 17, 2015: although the final cache is not located on state land and therefore this listing does not require a permit, the main access to the cache (unless you arrive by boat) is through the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park. Please observe park hours which are between sunrise and sunset. Do not enter the State Park before sunrise or after sunset.
