This cache was initially placed for the 2008 Cheboygan County Fall Geocache Bash.
It is a Traditional Regular and located on public land near a little know beach access. The “secret access” status has changed a bit recently after it received a great deal of press coverage.
A downstate man had purchased a nearby lot with plans to build on it. He also wanted to shut down the public access to the beach. This didn’t sit well with area residents who had used this access for decades. There was an issue of possible lawsuit and other troubles. Eventually the man had enough and sold his property. The county stepped in and worked something into legal wording to prevent this from ever becoming an issue again. This is a wonderful beach used by people to enjoy the outdoors from sunset walks to scuba diving. It provides an outstanding view of the Mackinac Bridge and the Straits of Mackinac. It is a wonderful spot for freighter viewing. Bring a camera.
There is a small bit of poison ivy if you approach in from the east. The north, west and south seem fairly clear of it.
