Geocache Description:

Steam locomotive and coal car

This cache was placed as part of the "South East New Hampshire Railroad" (SENHRR) series of caches. For more information on the SENHRR, see the parent cache GC1AWQM.

This SENHRR cache is a micro located near the Salisbury Point Station at the beginning of the Powow Riverwalk rail trail in Amesbury, MA. The Powwow River winds through the area and, standing on the bank of the river, there are wonderful views of the town of Amesbury up on the hill above the treetops. There is plenty of free parking on Water Street in the parking lot which is right across the street from the railroad station.

The station was built by the Eastern Railroad in the 1870's at Rocky Hill Road in Salisbury, Massachusetts. It measures a mere 11 feet wide by 20 feet long but don't let these measurements fool you! A busy place it was, receiving all the mail and newspapers bound for Salisbury Point from Boston on a daily basis. Other activities involved the shipping and receiving of commodities from local businesses such as the Lowell Boat Shop where many dories were built and shipped from the same Railroad station that received a large majority of their stock.

There are also a few other caches hidden along the Powow Riverwalk within a two mile walk or bike ride. Don't forget to BYOP to sign the log to get credit for this find.

There is a FTF prize of an unactivated, trackable "Pirates Booty" geocoin.

******* Congratulations to PRINC3SS for FTF!!! *******
