Geocache Description:

You're hunting an ammo can hidden along the yellow blazed North Loop Hiking Trail in the Lake Kissimmee State Park. Florida state parks are open from 8 a.m. until sundown 365 days a year. Admission Fee - $5.00 per vehicle for 2 to 8 people - $4.00 single occupant vehicle - $2.00 per pedestrian or bicyclist or passenger in vehicle with holders of annual entrance permits.

After finding the cache, take some time and visit the Cow Camp. Florida's cowboy heritage comes alive with living history demonstrations of the early Florida "cow hunters" in an 1876-era cow camp. As you meander down the trail to the cow camp, you will travel back in time to 1876. At the end of the trail you will find a Florida cow hunter in a frontier camp along the route of a cattle drive. He will cooking, making coffee (not bad), tending to the cattle or just resting up until the next roundup or cattle drive. The cow camp is open 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., holidays and every Saturday and Sunday from October 1 to May 1.

White-tailed deer, bald eagles, sandhill cranes, turkeys, and bobcats have been seen in the park, located on the shores of lakes Kissimmee, Tiger, and Rosalie. Visitors enjoy boating, canoeing, and fishing in the picturesque lakes. Nature students can hike over 13 miles of trails to observe and study the abundant plant and animal life. An observation tower is located in the picnic area and provides views of Lake Kissimmee and its marsh lands.

This geocache is a part of the Trek Ten Again in 2009 program. Participation in that program, while a lot of fun, is not required to log this cache here. Trek Ten Again in 2009 marks the second year of the Friends of the Parks Foundation’s call to explore the outdoors in Polk County. Five new nature trails have been added to the program’s original ten trek locations throughout Polk County. Each nature trail includes geocaches with a self-inking stamp like the one you’ll find in this cache for validating your visits to at least ten of the featured trails. You can choose which ten trails you visit, and of course you may trek all 15!

New game cards, which participants stamp and return to be entered into the year end prize drawings are available at the Friends of the Parks website. Validated game cards must be mailed by October 5, 2009 to be eligible for prize drawings and a certificate of completion. Trek Ten Again in 2009 maps, game cards and other information about each of the featured nature trails may be downloaded from the Friends of the Parks website. Check out our Profile for more details. The Friends of the Parks Foundation has formed an alliance with the annual Water Wings & Wild Things event to host our 2009 Trek Ten Again Grand Finale Celebration and subsequent kickoffs at Circle B Bar Reserve. GRAND FINALE OCTOBER 31, 2009 - BE THERE!
