Geocache Description:

When you get within a few feet of this cache, you will notice that there are a lot of orangish-red colored rocks laying about. This is what is referred to as red dog. It's the product of weathering or oxidizing at the earth's surface of underclay (rock that lies just beneath a coal seam) that was brought to the surface along with the coal. It is often used as road metal.

What's cool about red dog, is that the oxidation process hardens the rock and often preserves the fossils that were in it. Most often this is a fossil called Stigmaria, an underground stem of tree-sized mosses which grew in the peat-forming swamp that eventually became the coal. Take a look -- maybe you'll find some.

You're looking for a camoed lock and lock container large enough to hold a logbook, pen, and a small amount of swag. Travel bugs and geocoins are welcome. Can be a little muddy after heavy rains.
