Poseidon, the God of Seas
Story so far
The Greeks and Trojans are in the middle of their war, and some
of the mightiest Gods have gotten involved. Poseidon, the God of
the Seas, is still angry with the Trojans because their king never
rewarded him for building their powerful city wall. Naturally, he
has been helping the Greeks in their battles with the Trojans,
against the will of Almighty Zeus, who has been favoring the
Trojans. Eventually, Zeus thinks Poseidon has gone too far, and
sends a messenger to tell him to stop interfering:
-- From the "Iliad", by Homeros
(... Go now, swift Iris,
convey to lord Poseidon these instructions,
report it all precisely—he’s to stop,
to leave the battle strife, and go away
to the group of gods or to his sacred sea.
If he won’t obey my orders and ignores them,
he should consider in his mind and heart
this point—no matter how mighty he may be,
he can’t stand up to me if I attack him.
