Le Parc Louise-Marie


Le parc Louise-Marie a été aménagé en 1879 et 1880 à l'emplacement du fossé de l'enceinte du 14ème siècle, transformé tardivement en refuge à bateaux. L'étang en rappelle le souvenir. The Louise-Marie park was arranged in 1879 and 1880 in the ditch of the enclosure of the 14th century. The ditch served also as a refuge for boats. The pond recalls the memory of it.
Au moment du démantèlement des remparts et du comblement du fossé, l' échevin Gabriel Themon suggéra d'en faire un parc. Au terme d'un concours, l'architecte paysagiste Constantin Smits en a composé les plans dans l'esprit de l'époque, répandu dans toute l'Europe : chemins en courbe, larges pelouses, bouquets d'arbres ou d'arbustes, étang curviligne, cascade, grotte artificielle, tout concourt à en faire un coin de nature reconstitué. At the time of the dismantling of the ramparts and filling of the ditch, The alderman Gabriel Themon suggested its transformation to a park. La Porte de Bruxelles
Le pont au milieu du parc, construit par les Hollandais entre 1815 et 1820, donnait accès à la porte de Bruxelles, décalée vers le sud pour empêcher les tirs d'artillerie à partir de la chaussée de Bruxelles. Le pont est, avec le fragment de rempart enchâssé dans la grotte artificielle le long de l'étang, un des derniers vestiges des fortifications namuroises. The bridge in the center of the parc, was built by the Dutchmen between 1815 and 1820. He gave access to the "Gate of Brussels", shifted towards the south to prevent the artillery shootings starting from the roadway to Brussels. The bridge is, with the fragment of rampart enchased in the artificial cave near the pond, one of the last vestiges of the Namurian fortifications.
