Geocache Description:

The coordinates given are not the cache location.

This cache is inspired by those in the 'X' Marks the Spot series, and is part of a series on the theme of people of significance in the various arts (literary, musical etc) and who have Surrey connections.

This person (who will be called X) was neither born nor died in Surrey, but spent much of their life living in the county. Sadly, the second house where many of X's major works were produced no longer exists. The first house does still exist, although there is no plaque here to record that such a central figure of his/her field once lived there.

To solve this puzzle you will need to identify who X was and then answer the following questions.

  • X's mother came from a famous family, and X moved to that family's Surrey home when X's father (a vicar) died. How many letters are there in his mother's family name (A)
  • One of X's works is named after the place (outside Surrey) where he/she was born. The number of letters in the two words of this title are B and C.
  • X was related to another famous family. How many letters are there in that family name (D)?
  • The number of letters in each word of the name of X's second Surrey house is E F G?

To find the final cache location you need to solve the following:

Final cache location is at N 51.(F+G).(F-B)(C-B)E
W 000 ((B*D)-2).(A-1)(D-B)B

Please replace the cache box exactly as you found it and don't leave any spoilers in the log.

Please feel free to continue the series with a cache of your own.
