This cache is located in the Waitawheta area of Waihi, which has some great walking tracks. The cache celebrates the Nambassa Festival that was held near to here in 1981.
The cache is 2 litre plastic tupperware container. When placed the cache contained:
- Log book
- Some details about the history of the festivals
- 1st and 2nd to find certificates and chips
- A selection of hippy-ish goodies in keeping with the theme of the Nambassa festivals including: a crystal, a bead necklace, incense sticks, a candle, a glow stick, a pendant in the shape of a suspicious green leafed plant!
Nambassa was a series of hippie-conceived festivals held between 1976 and 1981 on large farms around Waihi and Waikino in New Zealand-Aotearoa. They were music, arts and alternatives festivals that focused on peace, love, and an environmentally friendly lifestyle. In addition to popular entertainment, they featured workshops and displays advocating holistic health issues, alternative medicine, clean and sustainable energy, and unadulterated foods.
