November 8th. 1:00-1:15 p.m. Mark your calendars.
This is fifteen minutes you won't want to miss.
~~PRELIMINARY INFORMATION~~ This event is a "Flash Mob" gathering of geocachers, only 15 minutes long! To claim the event, you must be present and sign a log sheet during this time. (Hence the difficulty level of 2.) "WWFM" stands for the World Wide Flash Mob event: Hundreds of events all around the world, coordinated to happen at the same time to bring together geocachers and introduce others (non-geocachers) to geocaching. You've heard of MEGA-EVENTS... This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways. Sort of like a MICRO-EVENT. FLASH MOBS have gathered for other reasons. (visit link) Come be part of this historic experience! The event will begin precisely at 1:00pm on November 8, 2008 and will last EXACTLY fifteen minutes, not one second longer. EVENT DETAILS Since this Flash Mob event is in Gaston with plenty of parking. I recommend you arrive with enough time to spare to not only find a parking spot but to then walk to the event. Remember to pretend you are a non-cacher, and to act like you don't know any of the other geocachers present. Definitely keep your whistle(s) hidden. At 12:59 PM - Make your way to the designated event coordinates shown above. Keep acting like you know no one. 1:00 PM - At exactly 1:00 PM as determined by the GPS clock, I will blow a whistle at the designated coordinates to signify the start of the flash mob. You may then converge on the area for the official event. Loot bags will be handed out with a nametag and crayon, snack, CITO bag and colored log sheet. Sign individual log sheets and drop them in the marked log sheet container. There will also be a large container for trackables. Then mingle and chat with your fellow cachers until the start of the main attraction. And try to keep your whistle(s) hidden. 1:05 PM - At exactly 1:05 PM as determined by the GPS clock, I will blow the whistle a second time to signify the start of the CITO and Whistling. The cleanup will last for five minutes. 1:10 PM - At exactly 1:10 PM as determined by the GPS clock, I will blow the whistle a third time to signify the end of the CITO and Blowing. Immediately assemble for and take group photo. After the photo briefly mingle and chat. I will be raffling off 2 items and for FTF honors 1:14 PM - One minute warning is called. Clean up and prepare to leave. 1:15 PM - LEAVE the area immediately! AMSCRAY and SKEDADDLE! Log entries sealed and closed. If you missed the signing and the photo, you missed the event. Your whistle(s) must be visible in the official event photo to log the event. THE END. There will be printed copies of this ultra-precise itinerary distributed at the event as well as geocaching brochures for any non-cachers curious about our activities. The first Flash Mob Cache Event -- First Flash Mob Cache Event -- was hosted by iTrax and FoxTail on May 20 2007 in San Diego. [Click here to see a four minute video of that first event.] There were about twenty other events held concurrently in different states and countries. The second edition -- now termed "WWFM" -- included over 80 events across nine countries, and 33 US states. The third edition totaled 167 events in 15 countries and 45 US states (and two US territories). One of the aims of the WWFM events is to have geocaching groups around the world assembling at the same time. The vast majority of events for this third edition have been scheduled to begin at the local equivalent of 1pm Eastern. (For example, 1pm in Gaston is 10am in California is 7pm in Zurich.) Come on down and join thousands of geocachers around the world! In your "Will Attend" log please post the projected number in your group.
