Geocache Description:

This is the last of a series of three caches around the Foxdale area.
Note: the coordinates are for suggested parking only, you will find the cache coordinates in the base of ‘End of the Line'. (GC1G4HX)

A nice walk along a good footpath.

The waterfall at Lower Foxdale was discovered as the Vikings cleared land further into the valley, and gave rise to the name Forsdair (‘waterfall dale’) from which the present day ‘Foxdale’ is derived.
Waterfall Halt was the only intermediate station on the Foxdale Railway. It consisted of a simple lineside shelter, with no passing loop or passenger facilities. The line was primarily involved in the transportation of iron ore from the mining village and most services were of mixed trains. Indeed the railway only ever had one coach, known as “The Foxdale Coach” which was No.15 in the Manx Northern Railway’s numbering scheme, and remains in service today as F.39 on the Isle of Man Railway from Douglas to Port Erin. The line ran from St. John’s up a fairly constant incline through Waterfall Halt to the terminus in Upper Foxdale. The tracks extended beyond Foxdale in to the mine workings area. Both freight and passenger services operated, though miners would often ride on open wagons rather than pay a fare!

The cache is a small lock & lock box and contains some small swaps and a log sheet. Please bring a pen
