Geocache Description:

Easy find located across the street from the oldest house on the hill.

Nice spot to park off the road by the mailbox on the south side of the road.
You’ll be parked across from the Judd / Gerber Home.
It was originally built by Pleasant Judd around 1883. His wife was Mary Elizabeth Anderson. The Judd / Gerber house shows great beauty in its simplicity and functionality. The hand-hewn beams Pleasant Judd built the house on still support the structure, even to this day. There have been many changes to the home over the hundred plus years since it was built. In fact one would never recognize the original Victorian brick-a-brack place behind its current American Bungalow façade. The old water tower and attached carriage house also still stand.
Louie Gerber married Alta Judd in 1910. They lived a few places around and in Portland, but Louie never liked the city. When their daughter (Gladys) was about eighteen months old, Louie sold his real estate business and shortly thereafter he and Alta bought out the Judd heirs and moved into the Pleasant and Mary Elizabeth Anderson Judd’s lovely residence in (then) Barton.
Alta passed away in 1974 and Louie died at the age of 100 in 1986. They are buried at the Mt. View Cemetery in Oregon City.
Although there are now homes in the upper fields on the Judd / Gerber farm, and a gritty rock-crusher on the lower slope, as one draws up “The Mountain” past the old Judd / Gerber house, one can still get the feeling of the “days that were”. Those days when life wasn’t so hurried. When the Gerber’s Scotty dogs barked at butterflies and Mrs. Gerber would take the time to tell them what good dogs they were. When Louie rode his handsome horses that gleamed of health and vigor and proud loving care. Welcome to “Gerber Hill” on Judd Road.
The cache is maintained by the current owners.

PLEASE … DAYLIGHT HOURS ONLY.
