Geocache Description:

Along the Assiniboine River in Manitoba, there are small communities scattered about 7 miles apart. If one stops to wonder how and where the prairie settlers decided to put down the roots, they need only to think of the Red River Carts. The ox drawn buggies could only travel about that distance during the sunlight hours, and as they stopped each evening, people decided to leave the wagon train for a sick animal, a broken heart or a love for the countryside. One these small communities is High Bluff.

The High Bluff district boasts 10 century Farms, including the oldest “same- family- owned farm in Manitoba, the Philip Hourie homestead of 1859. Three Premiers came from High Bluff; John Norquay- first elected in 1878; Douglas Lloyd Campbell –first elected in 1948 and Walter C Weir- first elected in 1967. Mr. Campbell served his constituents for 47 years, the longest term not only in Canada but in the Commonwealth. He is best known for bringing electricity to Manitoba.

This cache is located near the site of the first school built in High Bluff in 1893 for a cost of $810.00. The existing 5 room school was built in 1964 and remained open until a few years ago.

Cache is a micro and contains log sheet and FTF certificate. Please bring your own pencil. This cache should be and easy P&G leaving you time to tour the small community.
