A long but scenic drive with a great 4 mile round trip hike thru some varied landscapes off the 1506. from up here the Cascades Mtn range can be viewed with Mt Hood to the north and Diamond Pk to the south and further if it's realy clear.
this cache can be approached from several routes, that pass a number of other cache sites. You can hike the Frissel Tr. out of Mckenzie Bridge, but its a much steeper climb. or you can take a longer drive past Blue River Reservoir staying on the 15 road, past Wolf Rock {several cache sites here}, and catch the 1506 at the 4 way junction and make a right turn. Or, as we do, take a right onto the 1506 from the headwaters of the reservoir and go thru H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest. it'll be about 10 miles to the trail head [past GC17JW5 and GCNP4R] which was constructed by the YCC when our son was on the crew. this you can locate at N44 12.239 W122 06.683 at a white pvc pole near parking. start thru the hucklebery patch, take a sharp right , about 3/4 mi up, where the trail divides. continue to a where the mtn drops off offering a view over the ranger station and the Mckenzie valley. here, try to find the rock that is inscribed with "Al's Pt. 1895" @ N44 12.242 W122 07.643. thru small meadows and over some rocky promontories, the trail may breakup, but always up until you are on top. the cache is located next to one of two 1951 geo survey markers, if you're interested in them. [on one trip up i thought we found a third dated 1953.] bring your water and a lunch.
