Short Jaunt
The cache is for George Mercer Dawson (MAPMAKER) 1849-1901
As the sign on the pull over states: Dr Dawson was one of the most renowed of the early mapmakers. He had an extra-ordinary ability to provide not only geological and geographical evalvation of the area but also practical inventories of the natural environments.
Colonel James Baker of Cranbrook used Dawsons findings to organize the Crowsnest Coal and Mineral Company in 1889.
There is more info on the sign and at the vistor info center in Sparwood.
The cache is full of maps of some sort or other and also a coupon for a Buy one Get one Free, single admission of a selection of 17 historical sites in Alberta. If anybody is interested(the coupon is inside the Alberta map) and a FTF button.
If you are going through and don't need your traveling info anymore. Feel free to drop it off or pick something up.
The cache container is one of the larger square soft margarine container.
Thanks and enjoy your travels.
TRYING TO FIND A LARGER CONTAINER THAT CLOSES EASIER, so no maps or much travel info until we can find one. thanks
