Quick cemetery grab. Topo map on my gps says Rickert Cemetery, but the sign here says Patterson.
Another old cemetery that needed more visitors. There are several headstones that are knocked down, but there are signs that somewhere along the way - somebody tried to fix some. There is also a weird 'stack the headstones around the base of a tree' thing going on.
I always look for headstones belonging to veterans whenever I visit a cemetery to say a quick thank you. One of these headstones here lists the individual as having died on the Sultana. Now I'm curious, and having slept through several history classes, I was forced to Google Sultana. Your history lesson for the day: the Sultana was a wooden steamship that exploded near Memphis Tn (due to a poorly repaired boiler ) while transporting Union soldiers recently released from confederate prison camps home following the end of the Civil War. I can only make the assumption that he survived the war and a prison camp, but still didn't make it home. That seems so wrong...
Parking is easier along the "road less traveled". Cache is larger than a film tank, but still pretty small. Itty-bitty trades only - BYOP.
