Geocache Description:

Cache is a tube @ 4 1/2 inches long and contains a log only. BYOP. Located at the East Broadway Cemetary in Winchester. This should be a quick stop and grab.

In 1833 the first Cholera epidemic in the United States reached Winchester KY, resulting in a large number of deaths. Town trustees purchased approximately one acre of land for $45 to be used as a public burial ground. John Ward, a town trustee and leader in forming the cemetary, and his wife were both victims of the plaque. The cemetary was used until 1854. East Broadway Cemetery is maintained by the City of Winchester as a memorial to that terrible tragedy.
Even though the area has the appearance of being just a grassy lot from the road, you will be able to find a few blocks that may have been used to mark graves.
