Ayrshire & Galloway Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Pint & Two Halves: 1st in a phased sequence of my cache shutdowns. Caching isn't what it was and no-one seems interested in doing anything more strenuous than pulling a magnet off a street sign, sad really for something that started with "The Great Outdoors" in mind.

Geocache Description:

A circular walk in the Carrick Forest area of the Galloway Forest Park. Paths are rough & stout footwear is recommended.

This is a walk I have known for over 30 years but only recently rediscovered. It certainly ranks as one of my all time favourites & Barney definately loves it.

The posted co-ordinates have nothing to do with the cache & would infact take you to the centre of Cornish Loch. Park at the waypoint listed & follow your arrow to The Cairn of Numbers. Here you will find an inscription which will decipher the true cache co-ordinates which are

55° 1S.TUV
004° 3W.XYZ

Using the inscription & where the answer is a letter apply the principal A=1, B=2 etc. The missing digits are as follows

1st letter of 1st word = S
5th letter of 2nd word = T
3rd letter of 1st word + 2 = U
Number of letters in 5th word = V

Last digit in date = W
Number of letters in 4th word -6 = X
Total letters in 6th & 7th words = Y
Total number of words - 8 = Z

Once you have the final location continue along the path to the summit before the pointer begins to make sense. The cache is off piste but you can get to within 170' before leaving the path.
