Beautiful woodsy location on the south end of the
Nature Center along the Rio Grande. Fairly easy find.
Take a hike through the Rio Grande Nature Center and head a
little south for this one. Or hike up the paved and gravel bike and
hiking path from the south. Either way it's a beautiful hike,
although the area the cache is in kinda has a "Blair Witch" thing
goin' on
Maybe that's why I picked it
The cache is located about 0.1 mile off the paved bike path.
Cache is a regular sized metal cookie can, about 1-1/2 quarts in
size. Room for plenty of swag.
You can park in the Nature Center parking lot. It's open 8 to 5
daily. A full day use pass with parking is $3. The coordinates are
below. I highly recommend this option because it helps support the
wildlife preservation in this beautiful and unique facility.
Or you can park east of the Nature Center for free and just walk
in. Or you can park about a mile to the south at the end of
Gabaldon NW right alongside I-40 and hike north to the area.
There's a nice trail all the way. Have fun!
All of my hides now have a
"Kohavis Patience Factor". The cache page standard ratings for hide
difficulty and terrain are fine, but often there are hide locations
that require extra patience because of stealth needed, muggles
present requiring play-acting, puzzle difficulty, time required,
etc. I've attempted several caches that are technically very easy,
but these other factors have made me abandon it and come back at a
later date. These extra factors aren't reflected in the two main
difficulty ratings, so I've created my own composite rating, and
every hide of mine will now carry a rating from 1 to 6 which
considers all possible cache finding factors including hide
difficulty and terrain, which could influence whether you walk away
with a smiley or a DNF "frownie".
