Common Grounds Series # 2 Mansfield Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

GramPy'S: This series of caches has been well received during its existence but continued issues of containers that have gone missing and/or moved to alternate hiding locations have taken a toll on my ability to properly maintain. In addition, there has now been an additional burden of complaining emails from Geocaching headquarters when only two Geocachers have posted DNF logs.

Geocache Description:

A Dictionary provides a Definition for “Common” which reads “Chiefly New England. A tract of land owned or used jointly by the residents of a community, usually a central square or park in a city or town.”
Parking is available on Union Street at N42 01.429 W071 13.022

In colonial America, the park was more commonly called the common. These areas were found especially in the New England colonies. The common was short for “common area,” a large area in the center of a village or town where people would gather before and after meetings. The common often contained or was adjacent to the meetinghouse. New Englanders also let their livestock graze on the common. Colonial common areas provided an opportunity for people to gather in a safe place. Many New England cities and towns still maintain a common. Some are established fixtures in a community and some are more recent additions. All still serve their original function of providing a safe meeting place.

This Cache has no room for a pen or pencil and has room only for the Log. Please bring a pen or pencil to sign the Log.

This is not a hint but take a few moments to look at the Mile post in the Northeast corner. It's interesting.

Congratulations to Koneko for FTF.
