This is a picturesque loch near Aberfoyle. There are a number of sculptures around the Loch. Aberfoyle is set upon the Highland Boundary Fault, which splits Scotland.
You can park in the main carpark in Aberfoyle and walk or mountainbike in or risk taking your car up the un-metalled road to off road parking near to the Loch.
From Aberfoyle turn left onto the minor road over the old stone hump-backed bridge over the River Forth. The road leads to a modern housing estate. After a short distance take a turning to the right – waymarked in blue (like the rest of this route) and also signposted for Inchrie Castle (the Covenanter's Inn).
The trail following a well compacted path goes through mixed woodland rising gently through Loch Ard forest to N 56 10.353 W 004 24.323 where there is some parking. You then take the track on the right to Lochan Spling.
Before you reach the loch shore, there is a short detour to a viewpoint.
As an alternative you can park at Milton N56 10.719 W004 25.198 and take the new bridge over the river to the track by Lochan Spling.
There is a bench at the cache co-ordinates given. Take a seat, enjoy the view and look for fish!!
The cache is within 10m of here.
The tracks are good to the loch so you would be able to get a buggy or perhaps a wheelchair along to here.
Should you wish to continue there is a path which completes the Lochan loop through conifer forest and heads back towards the car park
* Congratulations to Clachanman for FTF *
