See the Llangiwg Church website at
www.llangiwg.org.uk to
read the history of this gorgeous little church that was first
established by Ciwg, a 6th century Saint.
Llangiwg was quite an important church in the area until the
Industrial Revolution and the subsequent population explosion in
the underlying villages. As a result the much larger St Peter's
Church was built in Pontardawe to serve that new population. (Maybe
the next cache hide could be at St Peters, another Church Micro...
What do you think?)
This is a small off-set cache. The co-ordiantes above take you
to the car park that overlooks the nearby Pontardawe Golf Club, and
the cache itself is very close nearby.
Note Due to demand... this cache is now a two-stage
cache, first a micro, and then nearby an off-set with enough room
for TBs, Coins and trades!
The initial cache is a micro, not a film canister... and is both
wheelchair and stroller/buggy accessible. In fact the cache is
hidden at a height that would suit a wheelchair user.
The cache in fact could be a cache and dash, as long as you have
done your homework before setting out!
The homework in question is heading off to
Llangiwg Church Website
and reading the history page to aid in answering the clues
below!
The cache co-ordiantes are:
- N51° 44.(A-D)E(F/B)
- W003° 50.(L+N)(H/J)(G+K)
Where
- ABC-DEF are the years Ciwg the Confessor introduced
Christianity to the area
- The church aisle was refurbished in the years GHIJ
- And, Henry VIII became Supreme Head of The Church in
KLMN
If you are playing golf at the nearby Pontardawe Golf Course,
you could easily attempt this cache as Llangiwg Church is right by
one of the course's tees! (It is right by the 13th hole - unlucky
for some I guess! hehe)
Note I have been asked why this is not a small or regular
cache by several cachers.... The answer is simple, this cache will
become part of a series, also, I wanted this cache to be wheelchair
friendly, and finally, as the structures at this location are
really quite unsafe I did not want to encourage people and
especially kids to go poking around where something could collapse
on top of them! If you follow and solve the clues, plus READ the
description it will be fairly obvious where to go and where to
look... and REMAIN SAFE!
Update As of 13 October 2008 this is now a two part
off-set cache, the first being the micro which has the co-ords for
the off-set on a small sheet of paper inside. Enjoy! REMEMBER
(clue) this is wheelchair friendly so the off-set is not in a
field! Though somebody in a wheelchair may need the help of an able
bodied person to reach for the off-set (that was another clue), but
that depends on the determination of the wheelchair user!!!
PS - This off-set cache now has snippets of co-ordinates for a
new cache nearby!

If anybody would like to expand on this series please do so.
Could you please let
sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church
numbers and names to avoid duplication.
