Geocache Description:

This is the first cache set by Ivanhoe & the Monkees. It has taken longer than we had hoped to plan and place, not least because it is some distance from where we live. However we hope that the decision to place this cache here doesn’t cause too many maintenance issues/problems – time will be the test for that.

This cache is a 9-stage multi-cache, which will take you on a walk/hike or even mountain bike ride (most of the route is on good ground) of about 5 miles, starting from the war memorial in Newport, Essex. The name of the cache has come from the time when CB radios were popular and such users referred to Newport as Chalk Town. Those who know the village well will already be aware what a dominant feature the chalk pit is in the landscape of the village, but for those who don’t may not even know it exists. Either way, by completing this cache you will, unless the visibility is poor, see why Newport was given this “handle”.

The above co-ordinates are for Newport’s War Memorial where you will find the answers needed to complete the missing information for the location of the first micro – which can be found at N 51 59.ZYX E 00 12.WVU.

Number of Sergeants killed in WW1 = Z
Number of (full) Corporals killed in WW1 = Y
Number commissioned + non-commissioned officers killed in WW1 = X
Number of letters in lance Corporal Francis’s first name = W
Number of letters in Sergeant (William’s) second name = V
Number of men to perish in WW2 = U

Original contents when cache was placed were:
FTF Certificate & Badge
Log Book + 2 pens
Cache Camera (please don’t take – just your photo)
Stretchy Man
Finger Monster
Toy Glider
Periscope
Fun Stamps
Caching Badge
5 x Travel Bugs + info sheet

We hope you enjoy this cache and we look forward to reading the logs of those who have decided to give it ago. This has also been the cache from which we have decided to release our 5 Travel bug cousins: Ivanhoe the Knight, Holly the Mermaid, Ellen the Ballerina, Alicia Red Riding Hood & Saskia the Maid.
