Moween State Park is located in Lebanon, CT off of Camp Moween Rd. It is on the shores of Red Cedar Lake. Camp Moween operated from 1921 to 1960 and was a summer camp for boys from New York, Sprindfield, MA and New Haven. The camp was abandoned in the 1970's. In 1989 it was purchased by the State of Connecticut. The remains of the camp can still be seen. The campers that went there were called "Moweenites" and they still gather at annual events.
Moween is the Mohegan word meaning bear. The area was once the home of the Mohegan Tribe.
