Geocache Description:

If by car access by Murphy Road off Hwy 508 in Calabogie.
Park at roadside the first crossing of the K & P. Walk 312 yards north on K & P.

Original Contents of Orange Marine Canister included:
Log, pencil & sharpener, Tonka Toys, whistle, waterproof matches, history, etc.
This cache is placed short distance inside the gate which restricts vehicles from using the North section of the K & P between Calabogie and Renfrew. It is very popular for hikers, cyclists and ATV'ers. Used as a groomed snowmobile trail in the winter. It is not an overly long hike to the Norway Lake Boat Launch - the only public access onto Norway Lake. Being a former railway bed - there aren't a lot of hills - so great walk with children in tow.
In the forest you will see massive pine trees that are easily a hundred plus years old.
You will also pass by a creek - which your family pet will enjoy! This section of the K & P is owned and maintained by Renfrew County.
The K & P (Kingston & Pembroke Railway) was originally to run 112 miles from Kingston to Pembroke. The first sod was turned in Kingston in 1872. Surmounting problem after problem after problem, it was extended to Renfrew during 1883, passing by Norway Lake.

The story is told that, one day, the mail clerk, a Renfrew man, was, as usual, sorting the mail on the train. The door opened at an unfortunate moment and the wind blew a pile of mail out the door. Helpful passengers assisted the crew in picking up the mail strewn all over the area.

Since there were many good fishing lakes along the track, anglers often asked to be let off at their favourite spot in the morning and picked up in the afternoon. Talk about customer service!

Today, the trail is not just a memory. It is used as a year round recreation trail and some property owners still use the trail as their only access to their land.
