Geocache Description:

This earthcache is located 2 miles inside Big Cottonwood Canyon along Utah Route 190 at a spectacular specimen of geologic history. The entire canyon is full of many sites of interesting and varied geology. This site is no different. The best way to reach the site by coming from the west on Big Cotton Canyon Road (Utah Route 190).

Million of years ago silt and mud were deposited in shallow waters near the shore of an ancient sea. After the layers were built up and compacted, they were tilted up, and in time they were elevated to their current position by movement along the Wasatch Fault. This remnant of the ancient sea bed rests before you in the form of a blue to purple colored rock formation.

Logging Requirements: Read the marker, analyze the rock formation and the pieces that have broken off of it, and answer the following questions:

1) What is the name of this type of rock?
2) How long ago was the silt and mud deposited here?
3) Have the rocks here fractured in a relatively uniform shape?

Do not post spoiler photos

Logs that do not meet ALL of the above requirements will be deleted.
