The town of Yarmouth has recently re-done this whole area, now with 2 different entrances & more parking. My GPS was having a hard time settling down...so here's a hint: there are trees & fallen logs nearby. So helpful aren't I?!
The cape has many great recreation areas. This cache is along a trail at the Flax Pond Recreation area. There is no bushwacking involved.
The Flax Pond recreation area was formerly Camp Kirkland – a resident camp for boys and most of the buildings were built in the 1950s.
The town bought the 17 acres in 1986 for three primary uses: conservation, well field protection and active recreation. The Flax Pond recreation area has freshwater swimming, a lifeguard, and ducks, but no sand beach, just pine needle-covered ground. There's a pine-shaded picnic area with grills, as well as tennis and basketball courts and plenty of parking.
