This is a “Slice of Heaven” Series Cache which is named due to its location near the Jumping Pin Bar which is in between North and South Stradbroke Islands. The cache is located on the Southern tip of Main Beach on North Stradbroke Island and is accessible only by 4WD at low tide or boat/jet ski. You can take the mining road accross the island from Dunwich to the Causeway or the beach access from Point Lookout. Remember to let your tyres down as the sand is very soft in places.
North Stradbroke Island is located in Moreton Bay and is accessed by Water Taxi or Vehicle Ferry from Cleveland in the Redland Shire.
I love the remoteness of this island, yet from Main beach you can see Q1 on the Gold Coast. Be cautious where you swim as the surf at Main Beach is not patrolled by lifesavers and rips are common. Also I have witnessed sharks barrel rolling in the surf at the Jumping Pin and also on Main beach. We still swim, but not out far and not around bait balls and birds diving for fish! Straddie is a huge mecca for surfers and Humpback Whale watching. Each year Humpback Whales migrate past this island on their way to their breeding and birthing grounds in North Queensland and cruise past on their way home. I have spent many hours watching them breaching and tail slapping just off the breakers.
The birdlife, marine life and animals on this island are stunning. We have seen turtles, porpoise, dolphins, stingray, all types of fish and crabs. Magnificent sea eagles and briamy kites, finches, wrens, colourful bee catchers grace the air space around you and the kangaroos, koalas and goannas are always nearby. For me this island holds a special place in my heart. Our family has spent many years camping here with other families who enjoy, swimming, fishing, whale watching, having the odd wine and playing cards. I truly hope this special place will remain unspoilt yet accessible to my children when they grow up and their children to come. If you would like further info with regards to this beautiful island please visit www.stradbroketourism.com and remember please treat this beautiful island with the love and care it deserves.
P.S Chester the Geo Border Collie loves Main Beach as much as us!
