53 kms NW of Sydney Windsor is one of the earliest European settlements. By 1794 LT GOV MAJ Grose setteled peopleon South Creek, the water body in front of you.
When Gov Macquarie visited the area in 1810 a settlement had been established on the high grounds adjacent to the Hawkesbury.Gov Mac named Green Hills Windsor after the town in England.
When Gov Mac left for England in 1820 the town had a feeling of permanence with public buildings including a military barracks. tis had started as early as 1795. 1817 on the present Police station, a Barrack building was built.
In 1840 transportation of convicts was stopped, four years later the Hawkesbury Couriercomplainedthat the Stocks 'a relic of the dark ages'in Bridge street should be removed IMMEDIATLY.
