Un “MONUMENTO FATTO DI SILENZIO” è quello che troverete a Sant’Anna. La zona è quella della nuova linea di fronte creata dall’esercito tedesco nell’estate del ’44: la LINEA GOTICA. Sant’Anna di Stazzema: proprio nei primi giorni di agosto ‘44 era stata qualificata dal comando tedesco “zona bianca”, ossia località adatta ad accogliere sfollati. Questi erano affluiti numerosi e erano ospitati dagli abitanti del paese. La popolazione aveva superato le mille unità. Inoltre, sempre in quei giorni, i “Partigiani” avevano abbandonato la zona e evitato operazioni militari importanti contro i tedeschi. Nonostante ciò, all’alba del 12 agosto, tre reparti di SS, guidati da militi della RSI, salirono a Sant’Anna, mentre un quarto chiudeva ogni via di fuga a valle. Alle sette il paese era circondato. Gli uomini si erano frettolosamente rifugiati nel bosco per non essere deportati, mentre donne, vecchi e bambini, sicuri che nulla sarebbe capitato loro, in quanto civili inermi, restarono nelle loro case. In meno di tre ore 560 civili, tutti donne, vecchi e bambini, vennero massacrati a colpi di mitra e bombe a mano. Per i particolari di come avvenne questa “operazione militare” rimandiamo al “museo di Sant’Anna” ! La ricostruzione degli avvenimenti, l’attribuzione delle responsabilità e le motivazioni che hanno originato l’Eccidio sono state possibili grazie al processo svoltosi al Tribunale Militare della Spezia e conclusosi nel 2005. Non si trattò di “rappresaglia”, come si è voluto far credere per molto tempo, ma di un vero “atto terroristico”, di una azione premeditata e curata in ogni minimo dettaglio. L'obiettivo era quello di sterminare la popolazione per rompere ogni collegamento fra le popolazioni civili e le formazioni partigiane presenti nella zona ! Infatti questo non fu l’unico eccidio della zona: una settimana dopo furono sterminati i civili nelle frazioni di Valla, Bardine e Vinca, aldilà delle Apuane. 340 vittime! Ai primi di settembre, 33 civili a Pioppeti (Camaiore)! Sul fiume Frigido vennero fucilati 108 prigionieri del campo di Mezzano (Lucca)! Per finire a Bergiola e Forno altre 200 vittime! La CACHE: il paese di S.Anna NON è vicino a Stazzema. In località PIETRASANTA, prendere la strada per MONTEGGIORI. Arrivati, proseguite la strada per altri 7 Km ed arriverete a Sant’Anna (segnalato). Qui la strada finisce in un parcheggio. Sulla sinistra del parcheggio un sentiero lastricato (molto bello) SCENDE verso un vecchio “LAVATOIO”. Proseguite fino ai PRIMI TORNANTI (circa 100 metri). La CACHE è in una FESSURA DEL MURO DI UNO DI QUESTI TORNANTI, TAPPATA DA ALCUNE PIETRE. Sono facilmente amovibili: non sfilate quelle che oppongono resistenza! Dopo Sant’Anna, al ritorno, vi consigliamo di fermarvi a Pietrasanta: una vecchia borgata base di molti artisti. Nella chiesetta a metà del corso principale (la chiesa della Misericordia) ammirerete due grandi affreschi di Botero: inferno e paradiso. ______________________________________________________ A “MEMORIAL MADE BY SILENCE” is what you will find in Saint Anna. The area is the new front line built by the German Army during the summer of ’44: the GOTHIC LINE. Saint Anna of Stazzema: just at the beginning of August ’44 the head quarter of Germans declared it “white zone” that means a zone adapt for evacuee people. Many family took refuge there, guest of the local population, that increased to more than one thousand of persons. In the mean time the “Partisans” stopped all important war actions and left the area. In spite of this, at the sunrise of 12th August, three divisions of SS, helped by Italian soldiers of “RSI” (Italian Social Republic), rose to S.Anna, while a forth division blocked possible ways of escape to the valley. At 7 o’clock the village was encircled. While men were hurriedly escaped to the forest, to avoid to be deported, women, children al old men stayed in the houses, sure that nothing could happen them, being unarmed civilians. In less than three hours 560 persons, only women, children and old men, were massacred by shoot-guns and hand bombs. For the particulars of this “military action”, you have to visit the museum of Saint Anna! A late trial made by the Military Court of La Spezia (2005) made the right reconstruction of the event, the attribution of liabilities and the causes of the massacre. It was not a “reprisal”, how somebody said for years, but a real “terrorist action”, planned in front with the intent to destroy any connection between civilians and Partisans! In fact this was not the unique massacre made in this area: 340 victims at Valla, Bardine and Vinca; 33 at Pioppeti; 108 prisoners from the camp of Mezzano shot along the river Frigido and, at the end, 200 at Bergiola and Forno! The CACHE: the village of “Sant’Anna” is NOT next to the village of “Stazzema”. Look on the map for PIETRASANTA, and drive to MONTEGGIORI. There, on the same road, go ahead for other 7 Km. You will arrive in SANT’ANNA. There the road ends in a parking. On the LEFT of the park a PATH goes down to an OLD WASHING BASIN. The cache is 100 meters head, on the same path, in a HOLE of the WALL of one of the first BENDS, COVERED BY FEW STONES. These stones are easy to move: do not pull out those hard! After S.Anna, going back, we suggest you stop in Pietrasanta: an old village were many artists live. On the main street there is the small church of “Misericordia” (half way) with two big frescos about heaven and heel made by Botero.
