Geocache Description:

Placed on PA State Game Lands #26. Terrain Level-4 just because of the distance.

Welcome to State Game Land # 26. These Game Lands encompass over 12,000 acres in four counties. SGL # 26 is mountainous with a diverse habit for wildlife. Majestic oaks and cherry cover the hills with occasional open meadows. Deer, Bear, Fishers, Beaver and Turkey call this home. Near the cache location, there is a large area that used to be filled with beaver ponds. The small stream that runs through the valley towards Lloydell Reservoir holds native brook trout. The area around the old beaver ponds is filled with wild blueberries. Be careful in the summer as you may have to compete with the bears for the berries.

You can either access the Game Lands from Rt. 869 outside Beaverdale or off of Rt. 56 on the Somerset County side. The gate off of Rt. 869 is located outside the town of Beaverdale near the County line. Park on the south side of Rt. 869 either at the first gate or if it is open the last gate. This is the longest walking route.

I suggest you access off Rt. 56 outside Ogeltown. Turn north onto Buffalo Road. This road is on State Forest and closes during snowmobile season but is very picturesque ride in the fall foliage. Follow Buffalo Rd. to Skyline Dr. and drive straight across to the Game Lands Parking lot. Again there is a gate near the parking lot. In the fall this gate is open and you can shorten your hike by a mile by driving to the last parking lot/gate.

During the summer and spring the gates are closed near the entrances on both sides. In the fall and winter, gates are opened to allow hunters access further into the Game Lands. October through December is hunting season and I STRONGLY suggest you wear fluorescent orange hats and vest. In the fall, Sundays are a great day to find this cache as you will not disturb any hunters.

This cache is placed in the center of the Game Lands and will require you hike along the gated Game Lands roads. No need to bushwhack. Just follow the roads to get you relatively close to cache. I rated the terrain a 4 just because of the distance.
