Geocache Description:

"Ground Zero"

This is one in a series of of ammo-box caches that will bring you to trailheads or areas where you might find many trails to take you into Marin's Woodlands for hiking or biking.

Mount Tamalpais is known for being "Ground Zero" for a lot of things. One is that this area is the jumping off point for countless trails that are renowned for taking you to some of the best views in the world. Its also been "Ground Zero" for the film industry as they have shot hundreds of Movies, Television shows and Commercials here because of it's beauty.

Although this is not a puzzle cache, you may have some questions regarding other things about "Mt. Tamalpais". For instance:

What are things that Mt. Tamalpais is known for that might also relate to "Ground Zero?"
(I can't tell you...)

How did Mt. Tamalpais become "Ground Zero?"
(I can't tell you...)

Why is there a can of Lysol in the cache?
(I can't tell you...) (but here's a hint ---> SOD at State Parks)

What I can you tell you is that this area is one of my favorite and fun places to hike and explore and that's why I want to bring you here! And just like all the other State and National Parks that we have all been to, I hope we can all take care of them and be good Wardens of Our Lands by following the rules and guidelines of our Parks System. Here are a few things I didn't know while researching our California Park system.

"The California State Parks is asking visitors to be aware of their surroundings and suggests a few things we can do.
* Do not collect and transport plant material (including leaves, twigs, branches or firewood).
* Do not collect soil and avoid muddy areas.
* Park your vehicle only in designated parking areas.
* Clean soil and mud from shoes and mountain bikes."

There is parking for a fee at Pan Toll Ranger Station if you plan on hiking or biking on any of the numerous trails that are available to you here. However, if you only plan on finding this cache, there are two spaces provided for 15 minutes of free parking in the lot (which is plenty of time to find the cache!).
You don’t have to delete the waypoints from your GPS units after finding and logging the caches the first time. You may want to keep them handy in case you would like to re-visit the caches each time you pass by on your way to or on the way back from your hike.

A special thank you to Erickson, who through his observations and his logs has helped educate me (and others I am sure) on how we can be better geocachers and hikers.
