Tatanka49: Ten years is a good run for any cache. but now it's time to go. Being handicapped really sucks since I can't maintain my better caches.

Geocache Description:

While placing training caches for our Geocaching 101 event, I decided that the APEC needs more real caches. With the blessings of the APEC staff, I made a training cache location a 'live' location. The cache is located along the trail behind the apiary.

Alley Pond Environmental Center was created over 30 years ago on an abandoned, rubble strewn tidal flat. Since then, it has grown through four locations to its current building which contains classrooms, animals and office space. There are multiple trails on the 160 acres surrounding the nature center. The center may be reached by the Q12 bus from Flushing. Trails are open dawn to dusk but the Center itself closes at 4 pm. There is no admission charge.

Enter through the main entrance on Northern Blvd.

One of the facilities on site is an apiary (honeybee area). The area is fenced but along the way to this cache. I upped the terrain rating to a 2. In summer--with lots of jungle, it's more like 2.5. In winter, it's a 1.5.

This cache has a Bee theme. Please trade items that begin with the letter B. The initial cache contains a

Blue ruler, a Blind sewing kit, a Beast, a Bracelet, a Butterfly, a beetle, and a Bee Geocoin.

Cache is a camouflaged lock n' lock container. The cache also contains a personal signature wooden nickel and a rubber stamp. Neither are for trading. Use the stamp as you would in a letterbox.
