Geocache Description:

This cache is at the site of what once was the Otematata cinema. There is a 3D map at the cache site which shows you what the township use to look like which was donated to the community in 2004 by Meridian Energy for the dam’s 40th anniversary.

During the building of the Benmore Dam, the township of Otematata had a massive 4800 residents at its busiest time. It contained many shops, a post office, a fish and chip store, a cinema and much more. This is now all gone, the only shop left standing the electrician now uses and the post office is empty. The camp store now sells the fish and chips and the only shop is now in the old NZED building.

Otematata is now a very quiet township with only 186 residents (2006 census). However in the summer the township swells with holiday makers who go to the lakes for camping, boating, fishing, watersports and swimming.

When placed this cache contained:
- the usual log book, pencil and sharpener
- The King of Clubs from the Houses of Cards cache in Dunedin
- Butterfly Geocoin

The cache has a two difficulty rating as it can be a high muggle area at times so stealth may be required.

No hints at this stage, will see how it goes.
