For more information about the White Horse Inn, see the related web page.

Morlatton Village is a trailhead for the Thun Trail section of the Schuylkill River Trail.

Morlatton Village is Berks County's first settlement site along the Schuylkill River at Douglassville. The site includes the Mouns Jones House, built by Swedish settlers in 1716, is the oldest in Berks County. Other buildings include the White Horse Tavern, c. 1750-1762, the George Douglass Mansion, c. 1763, and the Covered-Bridge Keeper's House, c. 1780. The buildings are open during special events or by reservation.
These sites are managed by the Historic Preservation Trust of Berks County.

Since its inception in 1964, the Historic Preservation Trust of Berks County has acquired numerous architecturally and historically significant properties in Berks County, PA. The Trust currently maintains eight stone structures from the early settlement years of the region, including the oldest documented building still standing in Berks County; the Mouns Jones House.

As a 501c3, this not-for-profit organization has been primarily operated by volunteers throughout its 44 year existence. The board of directors is composed of twenty members who along with the executive director, guide the direction of the Trust and oversee its 450 person membership. The Trust has held numerous events throughout its long tenure including the annual Mouns Jones Country Fair held in September and the Christmas Tea held in December.

The Trust has become an advocate for preservation in the county and region and an important source for research and education. Extensive research on the Trust’s properties, surrounding areas, and the social and cultural settings of the region has been compiled as a tool for understanding the colonial settlers and their early influences on the area.

The interpretive historians present educational programs on the life-ways of colonial settlers in the early 1700s; from daily food preparation to dances of the era. We provide educational programs on the history and culture that existed in this valley during the colonial era, including the importance of the Schuylkill River, milling, and iron processing. The deep and lush valleys of Berks County are paralleled by a long lineage of history begun over three hundred years ago, and the Historic Preservation Trust of Berks County revitalizes and sustains the past through restoration, preservation, and education.
