Near the Rossendale Way and the Pennine Bridleway. Well defined paths to within the cache
Erected by Samuel Compston, a local historian, in 1902. Nearby are also the sites of two ancient crosses, one of which is marked by an upright stone. These crosses stood at 1154 and 11147 feet ASL and were known as the Higher Cross and Lower Cross.
These crosses marked part of an old route to Whalley Abbey.
Fine views can be had from all of this area although care is required in winter when you should be suitably equipped.
