Cache is located on Perran sands, fairly easily walked over many paths. Please take care when logging this cache as it is a very popular area for walkers and people exercising dogs.
It is believed St Piran arrived on the beach at Perran from Ireland probably in the 6th century. The oratory was probably built then of wattle and daub, as stone was not in use for building then. The stone building, now buried beneath the sands was built at a later date and abandoned in the 10th century because of encroaching sands. It is also known that a large graveyard lies beneath the sands.
St. Piran’s Day is celebrated on 5th March each year and is marked with parades etc. and originated as a tinners’ holiday celebrated by the tin miners of Cornwall.
Cache contains log book (you need to take a pen or pencil), smiley fridge magnet clip and travel bug.
