Geocache Description:

This is the very first cache in the Torquay area.

A nice, easy to find micro cache at a great location to spend some time looking around.

Salem church is a Lutheran church that was originally built in 1911.

It wasn't opened for too long and it was struck by lightning and burned to the ground.

The church was rebuilt in 1929 and remained open until 1963.

In 1963 it was closed and everyone assumed the doors would be locked forever.

In 1997 there was a big decision to be made, the church was falling in and either had to be fixed or torn down. The whole community past and present as well as some people who loved the landmark all donated money and tried to save this beautiful church! They raised enough money to fix it all up, inside and out and cleaned it throughout. They opened up the restored doors to hold a church service that summer, and still hold one every year to this day. People still come from all over to the annual celebration.

While geocaching, feel free to take a look around the church. (inside and out) Just make sure you respect the surroundings. You are looking for a magnetic key holder with only a log book inside, so bring your own writing instrument. There is also a guest book inside the church, so feel free to sign that as well.
