Rich_Life's Colorado Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Rich_Life: Alas, Larane confirmed what I have suspected for over 2 years now. The Waldo Canyon Fire got my cache and most likely the first 2 waypoints as well. I'm saddened to archive my most prized cache, but more saddened by the destruction caused by the fire.

Geocache Description:

The Cache is NOT at the posted coordinates. If you want to go there, then bring a boat to get to the middle of Palmer Reservoir. This is a 3-part multicache. In order to find Waypoint 1 you first need to collect the answers to the following Colorado-related questions and then do the math computation.

  • Question 1: The highest temperature recorded in Colorado is 118 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature was recorded on July 11 in Bennett. A different website (Colorado Climate Center) will tell you "The hottest temperature in Colorado was 114 degrees Fahrenheit at Las Animas in July 1933 and at Sedgwick on July 11, 1954". In what year was the highest recorded temperature in Bennett?
  • Question 2: This State Highway is the highest paved road in North America. However, this is not a through highway; it is simply a scenic spur route. What is this State Highway's number?
  • Question 3: On this day in August 1876, President Ulysses S. Grant signed a proclamation admitting Colorado into the Union as the 38th state. Colorado became a state 28 days after the United States Centennial, earning Colorado the moniker "The Centennial State". What day of the month was Colorado admitted to the Union?
  • Complete this computation: Take the Year of the highest recorded temperature (in Bennett) and multiply it by the State Highway Number and subtract the Day of the Month Colorado was admitted to the Union.
  • You can cross-check your answer with this computation: Take the Temperature of the highest recorded temperature in (Bennett) Colorado and multiply it by the Age of Bob Isaac (Former Colorado Springs Mayor) at the time of his death and subtract the Day of the Month Las Animas reached 114 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Now locate this four-digit number which might be found near the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet; or which might be found near the twenty-second letter of the Greek alphabet (depending on the search source you might be using). GO THERE, to find Waypoint 1.
  • In order to maintain the difficulty rating I will not post any additional hints, but will answer inquiries.
  • Congrats to ernie66 for FTF honors.
