Geocache Description:

The ninth Cache U Nuts cache and the third in the “Out-of-the-Ordinary Sports” series. This time the sport is Bocce. The cache is a fairly easy 2-stage multi in John H. Marble Park next to the YMCA.

Bocce is a precision sport belonging to the boules sport family, closely related to bowls and pétanque with a common ancestry from ancient games played in the Roman Empire. Developed into its present form in Italy (bocce is the plural of the Italian word boccia which means "bowl"), it is played around Europe and also in overseas countries that have received Italian migrants, including Australia, North America and South America, initially amongst the migrants themselves but slowly becoming more popular with their descendants and the wider community.

The game combines elements of bowling, horseshoes, and shuffleboard. It can be played between two players, or two teams of two, three, or four. Each side plays 4 bocci (plural of bocce) which are slightly larger than a softball. There is also the pallino which is slightly smaller than a tennis ball. The object of Bocce is to get as many bocci closer to the pallino than your opponent’s closest bocce.

The posted coordinates will take you to the coordinates of the final which is a small Lock n Lock container with some trade items, a log book, and a pen. At times you will find quite a few muggles around so pa-leeze practice your best stealth so that this cache remains viable for a long time.

Some of the regulars sharing a friendly game of Bocce. They can be found playing here most Wednesday and Sunday mornings.

If you stop by on a Sunday morning, you’re also likely to see RC car racing on the oval track constructed on one of the old basketball courts nearby.
