Geocache Description:

Formerly known as Sussex Trig Points #1 - Chanctonbury Ring until 14/4/24. A series based on trig points in Sussex. There were at least 165 originally, this series will grow as I attempt to discover each one - this may take some time! You can also log your trig find at trigpointinguk.com where you will find a plethora of information and statistics about trigs.

This is a back-to-basics cache where a bit of walking is required and you only get a 1 point increment to your find tally. However you will be rewarded with breathtaking views and an ammo box filled with goodies at the end. Please park in the Washington SDW car park (hint!).

Chanctonbury Ring is a hill fort based ring of trees on the top of Chanctonbury Hill on the South Downs. A ridgeway, now part of the South Downs Way, runs along the hill.

The trig point is located about 400 metres west of the Ring, recorded by the Ordnance Survey as 238 metres above sea level.

Stage 1: Visit the trig and note the number on the flush bracket.

Stage 2: The cache is hidden at:

About Ye Ole Survey Monuments

Ye Ole Survey Monument (YOSM) is a captivating series of caches that pays homage to the remarkable legacy of OutForTheHunt's YSM series (GC45CC).

YOSM caches are strategically positioned at or near Trig Points. These triangulation stations have played a pivotal role as surveying landmarks, contributing to the mapping of expansive territories.

Some of these points, bearing historical significance, might now be situated on private land or have vanished with time. As a result, the caches are artfully placed in close proximity, reverently acknowledging the historical importance of these survey monuments.

More information, bookmarks and statistics can be found at the YOSM Website

If anybody would like to expand the Ye Ole Survey Monuments Series, please do.
I would ask that you request a number for your cache first at www.yosm.org.uk
so we can keep track of the numbers and names to avoid duplication.
