This is the fifth of a series of Caledonian Caches honoring those settlers of Scots descent who left the heather and the Highlands of Scotland to start anew amongst the ridges and the redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Now called La Selva Beach, Rob Roy was named by David Batchelor, a Scotsman who chose a Scottish name for his development.
The community of Rob Roy no longer exists, and the name “Rob Roy Junction” appears on current maps of Santa Cruz County closer to the Highway 1 – Freedom Blvd. junction. However, the name is still used as a point of reference by sheriff deputies.
Scottish street names in the area include : Wallace Avenue, Monroe Avenue, Glenbrae, and McDonald Road.
The cache is appropriately placed among the thistles and the brambles.
