Whiz! may be your words as you peruse the view that Gee Point is
reputed to have. Sadly, I can't vouch for it as it was hidden from
us by clouds the day we were there. But I'm told you can see for
miles in all directions: Mt. Baker, Mt. Rainier, Glacier Peak, the
Twin Sisters Range, the Pickets, Puget Sound, the Olympics, and the
San Juans. But I'll be there, on the next severe clear day that
comes my way, to check it all out.
At one time, there was a forest fire lookout up here, at nearly
5000'. Built by the Forest Service in 1934, the L-5 style cabin
overlooking Finney and Gee Creeks was abandoned in 1964. Today,
there is little left to tell you that anything was ever here: rusty
nails, telephone wire, and vague remains of a cabin below.
The three mile RT hike to Gee Point is not boring. It starts along
an overgrown but easily found blocked dirt road. No, don't bring
bikes of any kind, or horses as the trail quickly deteriorates as
it heads up the hill, becoming nearly invisible and easily lost.
Thankfully, our way up was marked by cairns left by an unknown
hiker before us. As we entered the woods, the trail became clear,
bringing us to a gorgeous meadow and the small valley where the
cabin used to be. If you elect to bring small children, hold
tightly to their hands both on the way up and at the top -- a flat
spot barely 25' across. There are logs, rocks, and steep hills
(dare I say cliffs?) to navigate, not to mention the brush. (A good

About the cache:
- Please, other than the "Wish You Were
Here" postcard geocoin that is to stay and live in this cache,
please do not leave any traveling bugs or geocoins. The
last ones were there for over a year before they were removed.
Because of its remoteness, this cache is seldom found.
- You are looking for a 30 cal ammo can.
- The cache is not at the very top, but shortly before you get
there.
- At this point, although it is mentioned in a book of hikes for
children, and a winter hiking book, I would not suggest looking for
this cache in the snow, nor would I suggest you bring very young
children along.
- A forest pass is not needed for this cache.
- If you're looking for a hike without many people, this is a
great spot. We didn't see a soul.
- Make sure to check out the avalanche path. It crosses the road
in two spots on the way up. It is spectacular to consider its
power.
