Geocache Description:

This is the third cache in our "Overnighter" series. Mathews Park is a lovely little spot popular amongst the motorhoming community as a great place to overnight. It was donated by Mrs J H Mathews of Te Ohu in 1928. We have placed a cache here as we often stay here on our way to business visits further north in the Hawkes Bay.

Norsewood is the northern-most settlement of Tararua District in the lower North Island of New Zealand. It is a popular stopping place for tourists and motorists on State Highway 2. Settled in the 1870's by Scandinavian migrants Norsewood retains a unique character; children learn Scandinavian dance at school, Norway's Constitution Day is celebrated by the locals and many of the local attractions give insight into the past. Even the street names reflect Norsewood's unusual heritage!

UPDATED 16/02/2010: The cache is now a 200 ml sistema containing logbook only so please bring your own pen.
