Geocache Description:

Located at 5 Fingers, West of Inyokern, Ca. 4WD can get you to with about .75 of a mile but from there it is a VERY tough hike. Altitude of the cache is right at about 5,000 ft.

I went to "Not Quite 5 Fingers" cache about 2 months ago. It was then I knew I had to put a cache up at the top of 5 Fingers. There are a few ways in initially. The easiest way to get to the base of the mountain is via the aquaduct road off of highway 178, which is about 3 miles to the south of 5 Fingers. There are also a few dirt roads off of Highway 14 that lead up to the aquaduct road. The aquaduct road is a very well graded dirt road, some of it is even paved. I chose the dirt road just to the East (about 150 yards) of the aquaduct road. The coordinates to the head of the road I chose are: N 35 36.129 and W 117 54.498. Follow this road to the base of the mountain. There are a couple steep, sandy roads going up the hill. I chose the one on the south side of the mountain. My 2WD F150, in 1st gear, got me to within 3/4 of a mile of the cache. It was hammer down most of the way up, 2WD can get you all but the last 150 yards or so up the road. It's a tough, steep hike from there. There's no trail that I could see but there was hardly any brush so pick you own poison on your route to the summit. Cache is all the way at the top. Not recommended for kids under 10 or those who are not so well physically conditioned. I would take some form of personal protection due to possibility of running into some form of wildlife. I didn't see any but saw evidence of animals. Probably just coyotes, definite snake territory in summer. Please do not put any water bottles in the cache. They will freeze, then when they thaw out they condensate and will get the items in the cache wet. You can place some right below the cache, in the crevice if you wish. Original contents of the cache are:

New bottle opener
Raiders antenna ball
Magnetic screwdriver
Foreign coins from Dubai
Navy Good Conduct Medal
A/C power splitter plug
Aaron Tippin Call of the Wild cassette
Grecian Festival button
Roger Staubach football card
2 Marshall Faulk football cards
Nolan Ryan baseball card (1986)
Gary Wayne debut baseball card
Al Schoendienst baseball card
Ken Hill baseball card
Jeff Burton NASCAR sticker
Lake O'neill patch
Mccain/ Palin bumper stickers
Mirror in frame
Tiger travel bug
Crescent wrench
pliers
St Louis Rams diecast car
California Speedway diecast car.
McDonald's toy
Disposable camera to take your picture.

Please take a picture with the camera in the cache, please do not take this item with you.

I hope you enjoy this hike as much as I did. It's a tough one.
