Geocache Description:

NIGHT CACHE ONLY!! HEED THE WARNINGS OR YOU MAY NOT RETURN! DO NOT VENTURE INTO THESE WOODS ALONE!!!

There are stories about these woods...stories that can bring chills to even the bravest of souls. Are they true? Are they legend? Are they made up to scare folks enough to stay out and leave the dead alone? Rumor has it that these woods contain an old pioneer burial site. These pioneers while traversing the then rugged Willamette Valley met an untimely death at the hands of some unsavory murderous wretches. When they were found...the scene was grisly. Nobody could understand the madness behind the killings. Many people were traveling to Oregon at the time to settle here. People of Oregon were seeking statehood and stories like these could not leak out to the east. So the local citizenry gave the victims a very secretive burial in these woods. No sign or trace of a burial was marked for future witnesses to find. Only the stories and myths have survived all these years. I've heard talk of these unsettled souls not resting easy. They walk these woods at night in search of their tormentors seeking that eternal revenge for that fate suffered so many years ago.

A buddy of mine and I decided to check this area out for ourselves to see what all the talk was. We even thought we might place a cache out here. Of course we went in the day time. As we entered the woodline a darkness settled over the place. We both suddenly became very uneasy. We saw nothing but could not help but feel like we were not alone and we were being watched. There was a silence that unnerved me to the core as we walked cautiously down the overgrown trail. We rounded a bend in the trail....trees limbs and vines appeared to be reaching out to us...almost like they were trying to warn us of what lies ahead. We pushed on. Suddenly we heard something that sounded like large rocks or stone crashing against each other as they fell apart. We stopped dead in our tracks and looked at each other. A thin mist drifted towards us from in front of us. Quickly we were enveloped in this glowing fog that literally paralyzed us in fear. There was movement ahead, the bushes were parting...we heard this low raspy gasp. Needless to say we had enough. We dropped our gear and fled....backtracking our earlier trail. The forest seemed to be closing in on us as we escaped. Suddenly we hit the edge of the woods and what was darkness became the brightness of day once more.

We both looked at each other in silence, knowing that we just had been at the edge of something that can only be described as evil. We decided to leave our gear, which basically consisted of a cache full of Travel Bugs and Coins. We knew these needed to be rescued. However, it wasn't going to be us doing the rescuing. We decided that if this is what it was like during the day than maybe folks that follow would have better luck at night. We left a fire tack trail into the cache site from our parking spot. You will need a flashlight or headlamp to make your way in there. You will know when you reach the end of the fire tack trail. At this point you may run into our unseen ghoul in the woods. Only through him and his tortured soulmates will you make it to the final. For only they know the final resting place.

Please if you dare attempt this cache....note the terrain rating....good flashlight a must....pants a must....seen poison oak in area and unexplained holes....by all means do not go into these woods alone!!!!!

****As of 1/17/09 the cache has changed slightly. Ammo can has been muggled and TB's lost. I have switched to a micro in the hopes of lasting a little longer.
