Indiana Dunes Geocache Adventure: Sand & Snow Blowout!
When: January 17th, 2009
Where: Indiana Dunes State Park, Chesterton, IN

Bust out of the cabin fever and join us for the first DNR Geocaching Event of 2009! The Indiana Dunes and her winter beauty will be showcased this weekend, a time few people get out to enjoy!

Indiana Dunes State Park offers many ammenities for all to enjoy. While the event is free, standard weekend gate fees are $5 in-state, $10 out of state visitors. Winter visitors can enjoy sledding, cross-country skiing, camping, hiking, snowshoeing, birding, a full service Nature Center, and of course geocaching! Annual Entrance passes are available as well. These get you into every Indiana State Park and Reservoir until Dec 31, 2009. Prices are $36 Indiana residents and $46 out of state residents. Golden Hoosier Entrance Permits are also available for $18. The Sand & Snow Blwout starts at 11:30am with registration and social time at the Nature Center (posted coordinates). The events namesake takes place at 12pm and is followed by a chili dump dinner at 4:30pm. Cachers are invited to donate prizes anytime, should they wish to contribute.

Tentative Schedule

12pm. Caching and Poker Run!
4pm. Event winners announced, prizes.
4:30pm. Chili Time!

Chili Dump
Bring your favorite chili dish to dump into the kettle. We'll slow heat it all day over an open fire for dinner later. Last year's chili was delicious after a cold day in the field! Coffee and hot chocolate will be available in the Nature Center all day to warm you up. Bring any other drinks you may want.

Sand & Snow Blowout (Poker Run)
Explore the wonder and beauty of the dunes area and the "Casual Coast" in this afternoon adventure. Placed in and around the duneland area lie 8 event caches, each containing a poker card in a sealed envelope. Find as many as you like, and take your chance at building your best poker hand at the end of the day! No trading, and no peaking until the end. Prizes for the best hand!
