Geocache Description:

Hidden along a lovely walk by the River Stour at Canford Magna. You will need wellington boots.

The Canford View Cache is hidden by the River Stour.

It is hidden between two wire fences (please be very careful of barbed wire when you reach over it).

You can search for Canford View cache along with two others in the immediate area. The field gets very muddy because there are cows grazing there so you will need wellington boots.

It can be found quickly from the parking by Canford School (N50 degrees 47.278 W 001 degrees 57.459) on Oakley lane in Canford Magna.

Or you can enjoy a longer walk from the Fox and Hounds Pub (children's facilities) in Fox Lane, Little Canford, Wimborne, BH21 2EQ

The history of Canford School
From Manor House to School
Canford Manor traces its origins to Saxon times and grew to considerable local prominence in the early Middle Ages, passing through the hands of the Earls of Salisbury and, as part of the Duchy of Lancaster, frequently reverting to the Crown.

From those times, only the Norman church and the 14th century John o'Gaunt's Kitchen survive. Services are held in the former and debates, meetings and receptions in the latter.
The main building, which forms the nucleus of the school was designed by Edward Blore and later by Sir Charles Barry in the early and mid 19th century. It is Grade 1 listed.

The buildings stand in fine parkland beside the River Stour. One of the most gratifying bequests to us is the rich arboretum, dating from the Victorian period, which graces the school in all seasons.

The Manor was purchased from Lord Wimborne and in May 1923 Canford School was founded.

Enjoy finding our first geocache!!!
