Stoney Creek Timberwolf Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

TeamWolfie: I am really sad we now have to archive this cache. It has been very popular, in a fantastic location. Unfortunately the plastic container is now damaged and missing, and the cache owners now live interstate so it cannot be maintained. We made it 12 years, and we're very happy with that and proud to have shown so many people this great location. I'd love for someone to continue the legacy of the Stoney Creek Timberwolf cache.
End of an era - August 2020 :-(
All the best... TeamWolfie.

Geocache Description:

Located in a tranquil rainforest-type setting on the NSW Central Coast, in the valley of the Strickland State Forest, alongside the Stoney Creek Trail.

This is TeamWolfie's first cache. It's a moderately easy, pleasant 12min walk from the lower car park, and the cache is somewhere in the timbers alongside the Stoney Creek Trail in the lower valleys of the Strickland State Forest. Please pay close attention to the signs when entering the Forest, and respect the wildlife and natural beauty of this location.

Daytime access only:
7am-5pm (Apr-Oct) and 7am-8pm (Nov-Mar)

Enter the Forest and follow the gravel road, proceeding to the lower car park. The coordinates for these are listed in the waypoints. The road down to the lower car park gets a little steep and rocky, but can be negotiated by a 2WD vehicle with care.

From the lower car park look for a sign directing you to the walking trails, and head for the Stoney Creek trail. It's about a 750m walk (10 to 15 mins, each way) on a mostly well-formed track. Some ups and downs, can be muddy after rain. Suitable for most able-bodied adults and kids.

For those who don't want to drive down, you can park in the upper car park ("Banksia Car Park"), check the trail maps for the way to the Stoney Creek Trail that runs off one of the loop walks from the top. This is a slightly shorter, but much steeper walk.

The cache is very close to the track - there is no need to go trampling through the bush. It's a small plastic container. Use care when removing it (i.e. watch out for spiders or snakes). Enjoy the beautiful rainforest vegetation. We also thoroughly recommend the other walks in this well secluded area too.

PS - check your shoes and socks for leeches after visiting!
